At Exeter Eye we’ve made our prices as simple and transparent as possible, with a fixed pricing. We don’t add on extra costs along the way, so you can be confident from the start about how much your treatment will cost.
Whatever you choose, you can be reassured that all treatments are undertaken with the full support and back-up of consultant ophthalmic surgeons – something that is unavailable in many ‘high street’ clinics. Our consultants see both insured and self-funding patients for a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions across a variety of specialties.
If you have medical insurance the procedure codes are also included and we would recommend you inform your insurer of the costs prior to the appointment. There is also a brief description of the tests but please do ask if you require any further information.

Biometry (procedure code OP014)
We will take measurements from your eyes in order to calculate the strength of artificial intraocular lens which will be inserted into your eye at the time of cataract surgery. This test is performed using the Carl Zeiss Meditec IOL Master 700, the most accurate and state of the art instrument available for this. It is essential for all patients undergoing cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange.
Retinal OCT (procedure code OP025)
This test provides a high definition image of the retinal architecture. It is performed with a state of the art Triton OCT and is beneficial for many patients prior to cataract surgery. It is always used in patients with macula degeneration and often in glaucoma. If you are likely to benefit from this test prior to cataract surgery, your Consultant will discuss this with you prior to undertaking the test.
Pentacam Corneal Topography (procedure code OP007)
This machine takes detailed images of the cornea (the clear window at the front of the eye) and also measures such things as the space between your cornea and your lens, and how dense the cataract in your lens is. It is not required for all patients undergoing cataract surgery, but if you have astigmatism (a ‘rugby ball’ shaped cornea) then the Pentacam can help greatly in your surgeon correcting this at the same time as your cataract is removed, with a Toric Lens implant. It is also very helpful in understanding many corneal problems. It is important for patients undergoing Toric Lens Implantation (to correct astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery) or who have significant corneal problems.
